A Man’s World #12: The Loneliest People Are The Ones That Look Fine

Isn't this the truth. I know you know what I am talking about here. How many times do you get asked at work or at family gatherings "How are you today? How are you doing? What's new?". And you always give the same response "I'm doing alright. I'm okay. Not bad.". We have all been there. At least I know I have. For me, I always do my best to look at the bright side and be a light for people. I do feel I am genuinely optimistic and am able to authentically connect with people. I know my family, friends, and coworkers feel that.

What they may not know is truly how lonely I can actually be feeling inside. Let me tell you some items I am experiencing and see if they resonate with you. For the past two years my wife and I have been trying to have a child. We have been swinging and we have been missing. Every month goes by. Negative. Every time I found out that news I still have to wake up and go to work the next day and act like it's not bothering me. And of course, it bothers me and I have to push it down. It was beating me up so much that I said you know what let me just talk about it to others.

When I talked about it, it was the craziest thing. It was a mix of "That's what you get for being healthy and eating organic. Maybe you just don't know what you are doing.". A great part was also them putting it on my wife as if it is her fault. When I told them my numbers that I got tested for are extremely low they still denied it. Crazy I know. So I got to the point where I said, well that didn't work, I will be open with my wife and a couple of my close friends and that is it. It has worked very well. And now, you know too. I would encourage you to be open and honest with those you have a strong relationship and can trust. Building that trust first or knowing you already have that trust is key.

Point of the story here is I felt extremely lonely. Some days are better than others. I know a lot of you are dealing with things that no one knows anything about. And as a young man you are expected to be tough, stand tall, and put a smile on your face. I am glad to redefine tough for the world.

Be well, stay young.
