Bang! That hard plastic ball slaps right off of that slim trademarked yellow bat. I can hear it now. God, do I love playing Wiffle Ball. It's basically a part of American history. If you didn't play Wiffle Ball as a kid, I don't think you really experienced being a kid.

Do kids still play Wiffle Ball today? I hope that the majority do. It's the greatest outdoor game of all time. I didn't play baseball growing up but I played a lot of Wiffle Ball. My Grandma had this giant backyard. We had the whole set up. The bases, the pitchers mound, everything. We always played a full 9 innings. There was nothing like it. You are either all in, or you are all out.

My favorite was being the pitcher. When you are the pitcher in Wiffle Ball you can do some gnarly things. That ball is magical. It has 8 oval like holes on the top of the ball. This is where all the fun comes in. Depending on how you hold it you can throw a mean fastball, curveball, knuckleball, riser, slider, you name it! My favorite is the traditional curveball. If you throw that thing as hard as you can at the right angle that thing will dip from high to low like you've never seen before. And bang! Right off the plastic chair behind home plate for a strike. The things I would do right now to play a full Wiffle Ball game.

These days, I play in the backyard with my dog. I toss that thing right on up there and whack it! I feel like Sammy Sosa some days. My dog sprints to get it like Ichiro Suzuki down the left hand side of the yard. He's got horses that one. Giddy up, boy!

If your kids currently aren't engaged in Wiffle Ball. Get them engaged. Wiffle Ball is for everyone. You don't have to be a full blown athlete to play either. Just get out there and have some freaking fun. That's what it's all about.

Be well, stay young.
