Let me tell you. This is my favorite album of all time. I love all types of music. In middle school and high school I listened to rap, pop, and R&B. Lil' Wayne, T.I, The Game, Jason Derulo, Sean Kingston, Chris Brown, you name it, I was there. Once I got to college I started branching out and listening to different genres. That's when I found country music and when I found the Black Star Elephant. Today, I am mainly a listener of country music but nothing tops the Black Star Elephant for me.
My good friends Nico & Vinz from Oslo, Norway put that album out in 2014. They aren't really my friends, but I listened to it so much they should have been my friends. This album means a lot to me. I have a dear friend from college that I shared this album with. He was my roommate every year from freshman year to senior year. To this day, we share songs off the album with each other. It's created a loving brotherly bond between us like no other.
The album has such deep meaning and messaging and I would encourage all young men to take a listen. It will make you feel good, really good, I promise. Give it a chance, please. It will enlighten you. It will motivate you. It will lift you up spiritually.
Here are some of my favorite lyrics from four of my favorite songs off of the album:
Know What I'm Not:
I've been a victim of trying too hard, now I finally see
That every person was fighting so bad
I won't be who they want me to be
The said that I should act a certain way
And I would listen, what a great mistake
It's my life and my choice to make
Now I know what I'm not
Am I Wrong:
Am I wrong for thinking out the box from where I stay?
Am I wrong for saying that I'll choose another way?
I ain't trying to do what everybody else doing
Just cause everybody doing what they all do
If one thing I know, how far would I grow?
I'm walking down this road of mine, this road that I call home
People:
If everybody were poor, we would all be rich
If everybody up on this Earth were poor, we would all be rich
If I had no work, I would enjoy life
I would put my family first
When The Day Comes:
We raise our arms and hope for better wins
We fight a million battles every day
I don't wanna see us falling
So we just gotta keep on running
Even when the day comes calling
I'm ready to march, oh-oh-oh
Enjoy your listening.
Be Well, Stay Young.
